What is Sustainability?

Sustainability overall has a concern for protecting the planet and the future it holds without endangering the life of anyone of Earth. “As a population, we need to meet our own needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” (activesustainability.com, n.d.). As we all know, the way of living currently is extremely unsustainable. We consume many more resources than necessary and therefore generate more waste and emissions.
Currently, the United Nations have produced an action plan to be reached by 2030 including 17 goals to favour the people and prosperity of the globe. (un.org, n.d.). Today, there is clear positive progress for these goals, but they are yet to advance at the speed needed to reach the final successful goal.

Vehicle Sustainability Subject
According to the European Environment Agency (2022), “Transport is the only sector where greenhouse gas emissions have increased in the past three decades, rising 33.5% between 1990 and 2019.” (europarl.europa.eu, 2019).) It is further shown that “road transport – cars, lorrys, and motorcycles – accounts for a fifth of EU overall emissions”. (europarl.europa.eu, 2019). This is the core reason as to why I have chosen to use lowering vehicle CO2 emissions as the subject of my animation. I have a large interest in Formula One, so I wish for that to prove the negative effects of fuel emissions around the globe. the engines that power the F1 cars are highly unsustainable – which needs to be redesigned – and can pollute the globe at an alarming rate. Foreshadowing the main animation idea, I want to compare how the public think they are when driving and using fuel-based cars to how they can switch to electric vehicles and make a difference to their carbon footprint.
I decided not to give any attention to the residential and commercial issues surrounding our carbon footprint as there are numerous animations already created for these topics and I wanted to shy away from any basic material already out there.

Audience and Purpose
Due to the similar target audience of the sport I have involved, I wish to aim my animation to all genders between the ages of 18-30. Being a fan myself, I realise how negative the fuel emissions have on the globe and do not support that, however there are no relevant visual animations that interest me to learn more about how I can help lower this. The purpose is to ensure more people are aware of the negative impacts and make them want to change their lifestyles accordingly.
The thought process to finally end up on this niche topic was simple and evolved from the research produced by looking at domestic transport and including something I am personally involved in and want to take forward with me in the future. It is known that Formula One is attempting to produce more sustainable events and cars, therefore the audience will approve of a visual animation to support the changes and linking to the overall sustainable subject.
