Defining the UX for your Festival

Festival Idea

My festival will be a UK based cheese festival named ‘Let It Brie’. The main enticement of the event will be numerous stalls, shops, and competitions for the audience to indulge in whilst also having constant live entertainment alongside. The specific location will be Cambridge as it is an easily accessible location that is popular with tourists and will include mainly local farm shops and companies.

Problem Space

The aim for the product is to ensure that the festivalgoer has an easy, pleasant way to control their time at the event and the process prior to attending too. The main problem space for the website which is found on current cheese festival review sites is the poor lack of directions foreshadowing getting lost around the event and the fact that there aren’t enough true reviews about a lot of cheese events. The problem space for the app is slightly more specific based around the day of the event and helping people navigate and plan the events to make their experience as smooth as possible. I want to ensure that these issues will be the main focus when creating the website and companion app. (uk.trustpilot.com, n.d.).

Usability Goals

The product will be effective for the user through the design and how simple it’ll be to access relevant information. This all depends on the functionality of the website and companion app and how this can aid the user when preforming the necessary tasks. Efficiency is capable in proving how easy and simple it’ll be mainly to purchase tickets and then follow this information through to the companion app. The main solution to making this happen is constant user testing methods so that this is guaranteed for the website and app. How well the site performs is considered as a utility goal. This includes positive functions and no overwhelming amounts of information. Our most important utility goal is the booking system and ensuring this is as swift as possible.

One of the initial usability goals is the product being learnable so the user can find information in a non-complex format and then remembering this so that the following visit the task will be memorable. These two goals are associated with the design of the products and ensuring the user has a clean experience leading up to the festival. The website and app must be safe in protecting its users from error messages and proving how well recovery can be made when a mistake occurs. This is key for both the website and the app, so the user doesn’t get frustrated when completing tasks.
