App Design Development (developed from research.)

The first thing thought about when designing an app is the onboarding process and how this will ease the user into the processes needed to control how they’ll use it. The overall UI design will remain like the app, but the information will be different. The design choices must be simple and won’t distract the user from the information they’re receiving. The viewer can simply drag left and right to slide between the 2 initial onboarding screens before tapping the cross to exit to the full app. This will foreshadow a smooth and simple user experience.

My onboarding sequence created in Adobe XD for my companion app. This app is designed to follow alongside the website created for my cheese festival.

Once the user is brought to the home screen on the app, they will see in the top left an audio logo so that it is accessible for visually impaired audiences and the app features will be read aloud. In the opposite top corner, there is a menu button that when pressed will allow users to click on several options to redirect them to different pages in the app. Going back to the home screen, obviously there is the logo and tagline central so that when thinking of the Z structure, the user can obviously identify what this app is for. Underneath this, is a very bright call to action button which exclaims ‘PURCHASE’ so that users can automatically be sent to the ticket buying screen with no hassle.

The home screen which is opened as soon as the user launches the app. On the right is the menu image which is shown once the user opens the menu. This is created in Adobe XD.

If the user didn’t previously use any buttons, then they can tap the arrows at the bottom of the screen to advance to the next information page. This has the same header which consists of the audio, logo, and menu and this will stay consistent on the rest of the pages. The viewer will then come across a block of information that sums up what the festival is based on which has a cheese-like border further emphasising this. Just below central of the screen is an array of images from said cheese festival. Finally, there is a second call to action button which allows the user to go to the purchasing screen which is the sole purpose of the app.

The penultimate screen is where the user will proceed to fill out their information to purchase tickets for the festival. There is large typography showing this and clues below for the user to fill their information out. These steps were made as simple and minimal as possible so that the end goal was easy for the user to achieve therefore providing excellent user experience processes. The box sizes remain relevant for the amount of information needed to be included. Finally, once the user has chosen their payment method, it will redirect them to a page to complete this before the booking confirmation screen.

After successful payment, the final screen will appear which provides confirmation information of the tickets. This copy is a similar style to the logo text which allows the viewer to recognise what they have purchased which will stick in their mind when it comes to future events. There is a second bit of copy underneath which ensures to the reader that they do not need to do anything further and they will shortly be redirected to the homepage again. This app design has proved full proof and clearly explores a positive user experience.
