Bird House Concept

Compared to the previous group project, this brief was very much open and gave us creative freedom to think of anything. The only word we were given was ‘bird house’ and the fact that it didn’t have to be a physical one but more of a concept. As a group we all had very different personalities, so I feel others contributed much more than I did. Even though a team leader wasn’t set, I consider that there was a clear one throughout the task due to their louder voice and thoughts. I also think that as I was the only girl in the group, my ideas were much more constrained, and I didn’t express myself as much as I should’ve. In our group we had very conflicting Team Roles relating to the Myers Briggs theory which is why this wasn’t as successful.

Once we had 5 minutes researching and sketching, we gathered to create a mind map. Once again, I used Pinterest board to sketch some unique bird boxes I found interesting as I took the topic quite literate. Once we began talking, I switched my thought process up and tried to be more imaginative. A lot of great concepts were created, and we had a lot of detail written down. One of the last ideas that became present was translating ‘birdhouse’ into different languages to see if those sparked thoughts. As you will see, this formed my final designs for the project.

We all decided on ideas that we had thought of ourselves and there was no hassle deciding who was going to pick each item. I struggled to get the idea of a concept straight into digital designs, so I sketched out a few things that would inspire me to start. The ‘French fashion line’ notion was broad, and I was stuck on what media to revolve it around. A newspaper article was my best bet that introduces this high-end brand that designed its items around peacocks as the inspiration.

The group wasn’t as talkative and provided less feedback to each other this time around however, a lot more ideas and thoughts were created in the initial stage. We all produced high quality graphical work given the short period of time and each concept was unique to each other’s. The brief (or lack of) boosted creative moral, and we thought of some very whacky, fun ideas. Personally, I really enjoyed the artistic freedom we had and would have loved to carry on creating better quality work.

If we did this project again, I would’ve not let my confidence get the better of me and introduce more ideas than the very minimal I gave initially. I want to end up changing my Myers Briggs role by the end of the year due to a confidence boost. The class feedback received was all positive and the unique language change was said to be an interesting touch. The colours and style represent the elegant style I was hoping for. Below you can see the successful images created by my group during the house given.
